2. Manufacturing
2.1 Manufacturing Methods
3D Printing is the most common way to make anything in FTC.Â
Since 3D Printing adds material, it's "additive manufacturing"
Commonly used to create incredibly complex parts that can't be usually made
Typically used to make brackets (mounting) for cameras, electronics, linear slides, etc...
Types of 3D Printers:
FDM melts plastic and is extruded to print each layer
Most common & best for FTC
Buy: Prusa MK4 or P1S
SLA uses lasers to fuse layers of resin together
Great for fine cosmetic parts
SLS uses a laser to sinter powdered plastic to create parts (usually nylon)
Strong but expensive
DMLS (like SLS) sinters powdered metal to create metalic parts
Super strong but crazy $$$
Subtractive Manufacturing:
Unlike 3D printers, subtractive manufacturing machines remove material.
Think slab of metal being cut down
